RESEARCH UPDATES – 2012
Item #1: According to the Brown Family Bible,
Norman Lester Brown was born December 15, 1871
Candace Victoria Michael was born February 25, 1874 – 2 years, 2 mo. after Norman.
Norman married Candace: January 28, 1893
Therefore, he was 22 years old, Candace was less than one month from 19 years old.
Their first child, Florence, was born July 19, 1893. This means they would have moved into
their first home in Verona, Ohio in 1893. Other dates for moving to the farm, etc need
to be researched and verified.
Item #2: Correct spelling of Candace (Candis) Victoria Michael’s name:
As recorded in the Brown Family Bible, Sarah Jane Patterson Brown recorded it as “Candace”.
Other official entries use the spelling “Candace”.
However, having received only 4 years of ‘common school’ education, Candis always spelled
her name with the “is” ending, and used that as her official signature throughout her life.
The 2 spellings are used interchangably throughout the family history & genealogy.
